I wonder why students "can focus more on the material and retain the information" in a virtual classroom. Many people say technology is the big distracter. However, I think while socialization is a big advantage of the traditional schools it could sometimes be distracting students from staying on the task in class.

I can understand why parents would turn to a virtual classroom verse traditional. Socializing seems to be a focus of many students while in a traditional school setting. While this can be a distraction, it is also essential to socialization. If parents sustain healthy peer interaction via other outlets such as organized sport or even church groups, their child will not be missing anything by receiving their education virtually.

I can understand that some students can focus more on the material, and master it more efficiently, via a virtual classroom setting. If a student is having particular difficulties, just the home setting with a sympathetic parent or caregiver to interpret what is leading to the difficulties and encourage the student can make the difference between failure and success. For the social connections, there exist sports teams and other group activities designed for home-schooled students to fill that gap.

I personally thought for children, virtual education would be more of a distraction than a traditional school setting since students are always tempted to surf the web, play games, etc. It's interesting how you presented your blog that virtual classrooms actually have less distractions. I guess when the parents are there when the kids are online learning, they can't really get distracted. But if the parents are already there, wouldn't it be just as good to have their kids homeschool?
